Integrative wellness clinics in Vancouver are increasingly adopting collaborative studio models as demand for diverse holistic care options continues to grow, prompting established practitioners to expand their facilities to accommodate multi-practitioner teams.
The Qi Station, a downtown Vancouver wellness clinic founded by Registered Acupuncturist Delphine Baumer in 2017, recently completed an expansion from two treatment rooms to five, adding a dedicated office and a community space for workshops and events. The expanded footprint at 119 West Pender Street reflects a broader shift in how wellness practitioners structure their practices, moving away from solo leases toward shared environments that offer flexibility, reduced overhead, and collaborative care opportunities. The clinic's growth from a single-practitioner acupuncture practice to a multidisciplinary hub with seven practitioners took place over a period of approximately 18 months, driven by increasing demand from both patients and practitioners seeking a community-oriented model of care.
The trend toward shared clinic space has gained momentum as independent practitioners navigate rising commercial lease costs in downtown Vancouver. Solo practice leases require practitioners to cover rent, utilities, equipment, insurance, and administrative overhead independently, which can be prohibitive for practitioners who are early in their careers or transitioning from employed to independent practice. By adopting a collaborative rental model, The Qi Station enables practitioners to reserve treatment rooms by the half-day or full-day, paying only for the time they use while gaining access to shared amenities including online booking, reception support, and practitioner profiles on the clinic website. The collaborative approach also facilitates cross-referrals among practitioners, creating a network where patients with complex or multifaceted health concerns can be directed to the appropriate provider within the same trusted space.
The clinic now hosts a growing team of practitioners offering acupuncture, Reiki, Traditional Chinese Medicine, craniosacral therapy, herbal medicine, fire cupping, microneedling, lymphatic body work, and sound healing. Each practitioner maintains their own independent practice within the shared space, setting their own schedules and fees while benefiting from the clinic's marketing infrastructure and client referral network. The Qi Station is currently seeking additional practitioners including osteopaths, physiotherapists, chiropractors, naturopaths, and registered massage therapists to join the collaborative team.
Delphine Baumer, Registered Acupuncturist and founder of The Qi Station, said the expansion reflects both patient demand for comprehensive care and practitioner interest in collaborative work environments. "What began as a single-practitioner acupuncture practice has organically evolved into a multidisciplinary team space where each provider contributes their expertise while supporting a shared vision of accessible, integrative care," Baumer said. "The expanded treatment room capacity allows us to welcome practitioners from a wider range of modalities, and patients benefit from having multiple care options available within one trusted location."
The clinic operates seven days a week from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with 24-hour building access for practitioners who hold room rental agreements. The treatment rooms are fully furnished and ready to use, with windows that open for fresh air, a sink within the clinic, and wheelchair-accessible facilities. The space is permitted by the City of Vancouver under Healthcare Office and Health Enhancement Centre classifications, accommodating a diverse range of complementary health modalities. As Vancouver's wellness landscape continues to evolve, collaborative clinic models like The Qi Station represent a growing approach to practice management that prioritizes shared resources, multidisciplinary referral networks, and community over independent overhead.
