CGH Injury Lawyers said today that Managing Partner Kevin Cheney has been named a 2027 Top Lawyer by 5280 Magazine and that attorney Charlotte Thompson has been selected for the 2027 Colorado Rising Stars list by Super Lawyers. Both recognitions come from separate selection processes that rely in part on evaluations by other attorneys.
5280 Magazine compiles its annual Top Lawyers list with DataJoe Research, combining an online peer-voting process with independent internet research. The 2027 selection is not the first for Cheney, who appears in the magazine's published directory as a Top Lawyer in both 2025 and 2026 in the Personal Injury: Plaintiff category.
Super Lawyers, a rating service for attorneys, uses a multiphase selection process that combines peer nominations and evaluations with independent research into professional achievement. Candidates for the Rising Stars list must be 40 years old or younger or have practiced law for 10 years or less, and Super Lawyers states that no more than 2.5% of attorneys in each state are selected. The company's main list draws from the top 5% of attorneys in each state. Thompson, a pre-litigation attorney, becomes the fifth attorney at the firm recognized by Super Lawyers, joining Cheney, Director of Litigation Tim Galluzzi, Director of Pre-Litigation Nicole Greene and associate Timothy G. Tarr.
"Both selections come from lawyers who see our work up close," said Kevin Cheney, JD, managing partner of CGH Injury Lawyers and treasurer of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. "The standard behind them is one we ask of every attorney here: prepare each case as if it will go to trial."
Cheney followed a similar path through the Super Lawyers program, appearing on the Rising Stars list each year from 2019 through 2024 before his selection to the main Super Lawyers list in 2025 and 2026. He co-founded the firm in 2016, has tried more than 25 cases to verdict and is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, according to the firm. In 2024, the trial lawyers association where he serves as treasurer named him its New Trial Lawyer of the Year, and he also sits on its board of directors, executive committee and legislative committee.
Pre-litigation attorneys such as Thompson handle injury claims before a lawsuit is filed. That work typically includes gathering evidence, documenting medical costs and negotiating with insurance carriers. The firm's pre-litigation work is directed by Greene and its litigation work by Galluzzi.
Other recognitions listed by the firm include Tarr's inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America each year since 2023 and Greene's selection as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2025. Galluzzi has also been named a Super Lawyers Rising Star, according to the firm's website.
The firm operated as Cheney Galluzzi & Howard, LLC until adopting its current name earlier in 2026 and now has nine attorneys. Cheney and Galluzzi, who met as first-year law students, founded the firm together in 2016. Its practice centers on plaintiff-side personal injury and wrongful death cases, which it handles on a contingency-fee basis.
