Ashby Thelen Lowry has announced that applications are open for its 2027 scholarship program, an annual award intended to help offset education costs for students entering the legal field at either the undergraduate or law school level.
The $1,000 scholarship is available to students who will be attending school in the fall of 2027 as either a pre-law undergraduate or a first-year law student at an institution anywhere in the United States, regardless of whether that institution is located in Georgia or elsewhere in the country.

Eligible applicants must hold a minimum 3.0 grade point average and must be a U.S. citizen or otherwise authorized to work in the United States. Applicants must also have already been accepted to the school they plan to attend that fall, whether that acceptance is for an undergraduate pre-law program or a first-year law school seat.
Applicants must submit a complete application by February 15, 2027, to be considered for the award. Required materials include a current resume and a one- to three-page typed essay addressing a topic of the applicant's choosing related to the area of law they intend to pursue, giving applicants latitude to write about any legal specialty that interests them rather than a topic assigned by the firm.
A complete copy of school transcripts is also required, drawn from high school or college depending on the applicant's current level of study, along with an acceptance letter from the school within the United States where the applicant has been accepted. The firm has not specified a minimum or maximum word count for the essay beyond the one- to three-page, typed format requirement.
Applicants must separately provide proof of legal residency in the United States, such as a birth certificate, passport, or permanent resident card. Social Security cards will not be accepted as proof of residency under the program's stated requirements.
All required materials, including the resume, essay, transcripts, acceptance letter, and residency documentation, must be submitted together as part of a single completed application rather than in separate installments. The firm's scholarship program does not specify a separate notification timeline beyond the February 15 deadline itself.
The $1,000 award will be paid directly to the selected student in the form of a check and is intended to be used only for educational expenses, rather than being issued to the recipient's school on their behalf. Applications for the Ashby Thelen Lowry Legal Scholarship must be received no later than the end of the day on February 15, 2027, to be considered for the award, and materials submitted after that date will not be reviewed.
